THE FOREST CHALLENGE 2023

East African Portland Cement PLC proudly partnered with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), the East African Wildlife Society (EAWLS), and Kijabe Environment Volunteers (KENVO) in the 8th edition of The Forest Challenge, a landmark event dedicated to advocating for forest conservation and environmental restoration across Kenya. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in EAPC PLC’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

The annual Forest Challenge is an impactful initiative designed to raise awareness and mobilize resources for the restoration of critical water catchment areas throughout the country. These catchment areas are vital not only for the health of the ecosystem but also for the livelihoods of local communities, the economy, and wildlife. By ensuring the sustainable management of these vital water sources, the event aims to safeguard the future of Kenya’s natural resources.

In joining forces with KFS, EAWLS, and KENVO, EAPC PLC helped to underscore the urgency of addressing pressing ecological challenges such as deforestation, water scarcity, and habitat loss. The Forest Challenge serves as a powerful platform for engaging multiple stakeholders—from government agencies and conservationists to businesses and local communities—in the collective effort to restore degraded ecosystems, enhance biodiversity, and secure the sustainability of critical water resources.

Throughout the event, the partners highlighted the profound interconnectedness between forests, water systems, wildlife, and the broader economy. Forests not only serve as essential carbon sinks and biodiversity hotspots, but they also play a crucial role in regulating the water cycle, ensuring clean water for millions of people, as well as supporting agriculture and the broader economy.

EAPC PLC’s participation in The Forest Challenge is a testament to our long-standing dedication to sustainable environmental practices. We remain deeply committed to contributing to conservation efforts and supporting initiatives that promote the protection and restoration of Kenya’s natural resources. Moving forward, we are excited to continue collaborating with like-minded organizations in future activities aimed at ensuring A Better Planet for generations to come. Through collective action, we can make a lasting impact on the preservation of Kenya’s forests and the overall health of the environment.
